What Kind of Reader Are You?

August 10, 2008 · 14 Comments

There are as many kinds of readers as there are people. Tell me in no less than 5 complete sentences what kind of reader you are. Here’s my answer.

I am an avid reader. As a child, I would hide under my blankets for hours after bedtime devouring book after book with only a flashlight–back then we didn’t have clip-on booklights! Maybe that’s why I had to get glasses at an early age? My taste in reading materials changes all the time, but I tend to go back to, in no particular order, travel narratives, good fiction set during wars, Eastern European authors, nonfiction about pressing eco/environmental issues. I typically have 4 or 5 books I’m reading at once and I flit back and forth among them. I wish I had more time to read. – Ms. Bory

Wow! What a great question. I always seem to be reading books and magazines for school but with pleasure reading I would say that I am a sporadic reader. I love to read and when I am enjoying a book, I can’t wait to get back to it. In between books though, I will go for a period of a week or two when I am not currently reading. My favorite books are historical fiction. I really enjoy reading about times and places within which the author has created a story. My favorite author is James Michener.

I love questions like these, because I am a passionate reader. While I don’t have a routine where I read every night, on the weekends and on holiday I can read more than one book in one day! I love fiction, especially contemporary fiction, and I also love reading poetry and short stories. Lately I have become interested in reading authors from places where I am living or have lived because it helps me learn more about the culture that I am in. My favorite books are Anna Karenina, The End of the Story, and short stories by a woman named Elizabeth Crane. I wish I could read all the books that I want to read, but there are so many, I don’t know that I will ever have the time!

What kind of reader am I, well when I was little, about 2 or 4 years old, I hated to read, then I start reading and reading and now at night when my parents are sleep and I dont want to sleep, I get abot 4 or 3 books and start reading, in this winter vacations I read about 20 or 22 books, and imagine at night when every thing is dark and I’ am trying to choose a book, I can’t even choose the books that I want, I have to choose them by luck!!
Well, if someone asks me if I like to read, I will tell them “I LOVE TO READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
    Thats what I will say!

I just turned into an avid reader. If I get a good book I read every free second. I like to read realistic fiction and poetry. I hate to read fantasy or 100% fiction books with magic or speaking animals. At night I read till my mom says lights off, but for me it is not enough, so as soon as she is downstairs, I turn on the lights and read, read, read until I fall asleep.

At night during on vacation I read Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. Although you don’t understand most of the words, it is still a very god literature. I also read other books like Charlotte’s Web until I fall asleep. Most of the time I read fiction books. I don’t really like non-fictions.But, I used to read those booksin grade 1.

    Hi Ms. Bory & 5C

this is a test, because I don´t know if parents, grandparents and friends can write on you blog? If so, I would like to comment on the reading! I too love to read and I read everyday – the news paper and a book – even if it is just a few pages before I fall asleep at night! I have always read a lot, and when I was your age I loved a series about 4 kids and a dog ” De 5″ (The 5) it was called in Danish. They solved all kinds of mysteries. Now I mostly read novels and biographies. I prefer to read in Danish but not only Danish authors – actually there are a lot of excellent ones, but many of their books are not translated. I always buy a lot of books in Denmark to bring back here! Keep on reading 5C :-) ))
